Safety at Sea Does Not Happen by Chance

NAVITEC, the exclusive Brazilian distributor for Onwa Marine, has recently signed a landmark contract with the State Government of Santa Catarina for the supply of 2,500 KS-33R AIS personal locator devices. These units will be deployed to artisanal fishermen operating across the Santa Catarina region.

Fabrício Ardigo, Founder and CEO of NAVITEC, described this pioneering initiative as the practical implementation of a long-standing public policy—transforming intent into tangible protection for those who earn their living at sea, often in unpredictable and hazardous conditions.

Fabrício added:
“This program aligns perfectly with the operational response framework currently being implemented by the Santa Catarina government. With NAVITEC’s support, a network of AIS receivers from Onwa Marine is being established along the coastline. This infrastructure will enable the real-time reception and processing of individual distress signals, significantly improving the speed and accuracy of rescue operations. Tracking technology and response capability must go hand in hand.”

Onwa Marine and NAVITEC are proud to contribute to this integrated safety ecosystem, demonstrating how electronic navigation solutions can deliver meaningful, real-world impact—particularly for smaller vessels, where risk is higher and access to advanced technology has traditionally been limited.

This initiative highlights a key lesson: when maritime technology is applied with clear purpose and supported by an effective response infrastructure, it can significantly enhance accident prevention, enable better decision-making, and ultimately improve the protection of life at sea.
